I didn’t like the micro aggression but the author is black as well and I thought maybe I was just being too sensitive. It was like and I’m paraphrasing here “Cora was the opposite of Declan, loud and well, black (since Declan is Irish)” anyways this made me stop the book. In the introduction, the MMC Liam describes her as “loud” which okay if that’s genuinely her but the way it was said rubbed me the wrong way. So basically in the first chapter we get introduced to Liam’s family, he has a cousin named Declan who is married to Coraline (a black woman). I love mafia books and I love badass FMCs so I had to get the books!
They both want to rule and Melody is a leader type so she clashes with Liam. They marry to unite but each establishes dominance etc. It’s like Mr & Ms smith type book because the FMC (Melody) and the MMC (Liam) are each the heads of the Italian & Irish mafias. It’s a dark romance, mafia book with an arranged marriage. So over the weekend I see some cool tiktoks talking about the ruthless people series by JJ Mcavoy and it looks pretty interesting. If I did the spoiler text, I’d have to cover everything.
I don’t have any friends who read these kind of books so I just need to share this with anyone.ītw the whole rant will include spoilers so be warned. Bear with me because this could be a lot but I’m genuinely so frustrated at these books that I need to get this off my chest so I can sleep at night lol.
